Guess who’s in town?

Regular readers of the blog will remember that back in February I shared that this year is a Mission Partner smorgasbord and the next dish is about to land.

But before I tell you who, can I invite you to begin 2027 with your heart full and your eyes lifted?

CMS Summer School is a week to sit under God’s word, sing his praise, and see the fruit of his kingdom growing around the world. In 2027, Charlie Skrine from All Souls Langham Place (London), will open up 1 Corinthians, a letter to a messy, gifted church a lot like ours.

You’ll hear from missionaries serving in hard and wonderful places and their stories will stretch your prayers and stir your heart for God’s mission. Come along, and bring a friend. Start your year well. For those in Nights, Luca Cho is getting a crew together to go Wednesday 13 January. Hit Luca up or check the Nights socials. Register here: https://nswsummerschool.org.au.

OK, so who’s in town? Gavin and Megan Rosser!

Gavin and Megan will be with us on Sundays October 25 and November 1 to share about their ministry with CMS at the International Anglican Church in Amman, Jordan. They will also visit Growth Groups and take some other opportunities to encourage us to think globally. I hope we will take the opportunity to encourage and pray for them too.

For those new to church and the Rossers, they spent 17 years in pastoral ministry in Sydney Anglican churches. Over those years they supported missionaries and kept feeling the pull to go themselves, and eventually they did. After much prayer and consideration, they ended up in Jordan which is (in theory) one of the safer Middle East countries but recent events have been challenging (to say the least) and the number of refugees in Jordan is rising.

Why did they go to Jordan? Well, most of us could drive to half a dozen good churches any Sunday. In Jordan, there are very few English-speaking Bible based churches. The congregation they lead has a broad mix of people, many of whom are expats involved in engaging locals, working at embassies or in business, and doing humanitarian work. All of them are in hard places, and all of them need to be fed by God’s word. The reality is that Jordan doesn’t tend to raise up English-speaking Anglican ministers, so the Rossers are filling a real gap.

So when you see them, say hello. Ask how things are going, and ask how you can pray. As they said in a recent newsletter, they themselves are weak, but God is strong, and he answers prayer.

I love that our church supports mission outside our church so well and I am very thankful to the teams led by Lindy Luger and William Hood who guide us in this work. You can find out more about who our mission partners are by visiting the world map in the foyer.

Let’s lift our eyes to God’s global vision and get excited for what is happening around the world!
