Why I love Mondays

Well, another term of Mondays has drawn to a close and I wanted to spend a few moments today reflecting on why I love Mondays. So here are my four reasons.

First, I love Mondays because we are participating in the beautiful saving work of God. Jesus tells us that our Father in heaven is committed to seeking and saving the lost and Mondays is a moment when that happens. I love the picture in Matthew 18 of a man with 100 sheep. One of those sheep wanders off and the man goes after the 1. Matthew writes, “In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭14‬) God is unwilling to do nothing. He longs to see people saved. He uses us in his plans to seek and save. And Mondays, where people hear of his glorious saving work in Jesus is one of those moments when God seeks and saves people. It’s incredible.

Second, I love Mondays because people are being given the opportunity to talk about the big issues of life and death. A lot of people are pretty morose about the state of spiritual interest in Australia at the moment but I think we don’t need to be. I am finding people young and old, men and women interested in chatting, thinking, exploring and discovering. Lots of others are saying the same. I walked into Mondays last week and found almost 100 people, all talking about what really matters. So here is a hot take: I reckon the biggest blocker to good chats about Jesus right now is us being unwilling to start them. Mondays make it easy.

Third, I love Mondays for the unity in mission it expresses across our congregations. There are people there from Mornings, Late Mornings, Nights and Tuesdays. There are people of all ages and life stages. There are people who work and people who don’t. There are people from every tribe and nation. But they are all talking about the same thing. The believers amongst them are all praying for the same thing. The goal of it is shared among everyone - we all want the same thing - our friends and family to know and trust Jesus. It’s a wonderful work.

Fourth, I love Mondays because of the team that has served with joy. Each week I am there I have been so thankful for the setup team who do an incredible job, the cooks who provide abundantly, the table captains who are prepared and ready to lead, the tech team who make sure us speakers sound good and there are more. There is a group of about 20 who make sure the gospel goes out each week but I want to particularly express my gratitude to Elliot Temple and Britt Beattie who have carried the load on coordinating it all. Seeing people serve with joy in the cause of the gospel warms my heart.

So there you go. I love Mondays. It all kicks off again on Monday 9th February. Why not put that date in your diary now and start praying for who you might invite. I can’t wait for Mondays to start again in 2026 and just possibly by the end of the year I might love Mondays even more.
