Chester Hill Anglican Church

South West Sydney, in partnership with Paul and Beth Webb

Chester Hill Anglican Church is a multicultural, multi-generational church in Chester Hill. They seek to reach out to the 25,000 people who live in the Chester Hill region of South-West Sydney.

Started 2016

  • In 2016, Paul, along with his wife Beth, joined Chester Hill Anglican as their new Senior Minister and launched a multicultural, multi-generational church service in Chester Hill.

Chester Hill Anglican have a vision to reach people who have come to live in Sydney from all the nations and see them built up as disciples of Christ through their multicultural ministry in south-west Sydney.

Christ Church St Ives has partnered with Chester Hill Anglican Church in a number of ways including:

    • Support and ongoing partnership in the Gospel since they launched the Church plant in 2016.

    • Financially supporting them through a regular giving of a percentage of our members weekly Sunday giving.

    • Ongoing prayer with and for them

    • Committed members of Christ Church St Ives who serve at Chester Hill on Sundays

  • Chester Hill Context

    • Population: 25,000

    • Demographic mix: More than 140 different language groups from many different faith backgrounds are represented in the South-West Sydney region.

    Challenges

    • The challenge is how to engage a diverse, multicultural mix of cultures and religions in an area that has increased in cultural diversity over the last 30 years, and where churches have struggled to adapt with strong cross-cultural gospel engagement thus far.

    Opportunities

    • People from over 140 language groups represented in the region waiting to be reached with the good news of Jesus.

    • Building disciples cross-culturally in Southwest Sydney through multicultural services and smaller gatherings

    • Equipping & strengthening churches in culturally diverse suburbs.

  • Small Churches - supported by a centralised hub, the way forward.

While acknowledging that a multi-cultural gathering would be the most reflective of God's design for His church, Chester Hill Anglican seeks to reach the many language groups with the Gospel of Jesus in people's heart language.

Because English is not the first language for the majority in a multicultural Chester Hill, much of the teaching can be lost in translation when the entire congregation meets in an English-speaking service.

As such, Chester Hill Anglican has sought to cater for non-English speakers in a number of ways. Home Churches have been established to this end in the appropriate language, and are committed to, listening to, loving and living out the gospel. Relevant Home Church leaders are trained to handle God’s word faithfully and pastor their flocks in their unique settings.

The Home Churches are supported by a Hub Service that operates in the church Hall. These services are interactive in nature to allow a devoted time of reading, sharing and digesting God's word together before the teacher unpacks the intent. It is hoped that from Hub, new Home Churches will be planted as God brings the growth. Currently, it is exciting to see the Lord at work amongst the Kenyan community.
