Rebekah

South-East Asia (CMS)

Rebekah serves in a secure location in South East Asia and seeks to build relationships among the people she serves.

Started 2022

  • Rebekah has been invited to serve in a local Bible College, teaching, discipling students, and supporting faculty development.

Highly aware of their place as a minority within a diverse society, the college raises up godly, biblically faithful, and culturally engaged Christians to lead and serve in their churches and communities. They have asked Rebekah to support and enrich this ministry especially in the area of systematic Christian thought in the Reformed tradition.

Rebekah has spent the majority of the past ten years living, studying, and working overseas in preparation for this role and, through CMS, is excited to partner both with us and locals in her context.

  • Local people group

    • Population: 40 million

    • Faith backgrounds: >99% majority faith, 0.06% evangelical Christian

    Challenges:

    • Persecution: ranked amongst the top 40 most challenging locations worldwide

    • Deep gospel engagement with local issues such as poverty, urbanisation, and the push of technology across local cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic divides "Card carrying" Christians lacking depth of faith, and so seeking comfortable rather than costly discipleship.

    Opportunities

    • Emerging local leaders who are keen to grow in faith and engage with their communities.

    • Working with a church tradition that deeply values Scripture, meditating thoughtfully on life from a Christian perspective, and living out the faith before a watching world.

  • While embracing her status as a lifelong language and culture learner, Rebekah will transition into a faculty role at the college.

    • She will be involved with undergraduate and postgraduate students in both the classroom and less formal discipleship contexts.

    • She will develop learning and teaching materials to provide a solid grounding in faithful, biblical, God glorifying Christian theology.

    • She will equip locals to deeply engage with their context from a Reformed perspective.

    • She will support local faculty in their efforts of research and teaching.

    • Rebekah will also continue to live as a member of the local community and participate in church life.

All this in prayerful dependence on our gracious Father, the reigning Son, and the living Spirit.
