Peace Like a River?
There are few things truly longed for more than peace, but too often it feels completely out of reach. Indeed, thanks to 1980s beauty pageants, the pursuit of peace has turned into a meme - which is tragic in the end because while some laugh at the idea, too many others just hold on for dear life hoping they can make it through the day. We live in a culture of hurry, distraction, and worry. Many of our friends are searching for calm waters in the chaos of life but often feel like peace is nothing more than a mirage.
That’s why this season of Share Life Sundays is such a precious opportunity. Under the theme Peace like a River, I’ll be opening the Bible so we can all hear Jesus’ words of life, words that bring deep, lasting peace with God and a new way to live in a restless world.
Now here’s the irony of course: talking about Share Life doesn’t always bring us peace! The idea of inviting someone to church when your weekend is already packed is perhaps as far from bringing peace as you can imagine. So let me just encourage you that, just as we have talked about in our Growth Groups all year, these next three weeks give us a chance to build on the praying and listening we have been doing by taking one more natural step. Inviting.
I know this can feel daunting. Many of us carry memories of awkward conversations, polite brush-offs, or simply not knowing what to say. But remember: we’re not trying to force moments. We’re asking God to give them. And when He does, we simply step forward in faith - gently, humbly, and naturally.
This is why Peace like a River matters. We have something priceless to offer our friends: not just a new activity for their Sunday, but the good news of Jesus who brings peace with God, peace within, and peace that flows into eternity.
So let’s step into this season together. Let’s build on all the praying and listening, and make an invite. And let’s trust that God will use these weeks of Share Life Sundays to draw people we love closer to the life-changing peace found in Jesus.
